The article I found is entitled Evaluation Study of the Effect of Promethean's ActivClasroom on Students with Special Needs by Anne Ricci.
It is available here for reading.
This article analyzes the effect that the Activboard in particular on children with special needs ranging from learning disabilities to behavioral issues as well as students who are labled as gifted. The research focused on 18 different indicators. (student engagement, contribution to discussions, working with peers, finishing activities on time, regular participation, level of function, time on task, reading abilitiy, self motivation, expection of written work, legibility of work, following written instructions, independant work, understanding verbal instructions, computer skills, student behavior, student attendance, reading and without losing place) The levels were assessed by individual teachers in 15 schools from the Public School District from a pre and post survey. The study found that after the implementation of the Activboards there was substantial increase in many aspects of student learning. Teachers noticed an increase in student attention, focus and interactive environments. There was also postive response from the students with less behavioral issues and higher student engagement and fine motor development.
One question I still have about the Promethean Activboard is... Are there more abilities for the Activboard with the available software then the SMARTboard? In the demonstrations that I have seen of the Activboard it seems like it offers a wider selection of tools and ways to organize a page/flip chart.
